A Systematic Program Starting with Market Tour

t precisely 8:35 AM, the white van arrived on schedule. After picking up several more groups from the Nimman area, we formed a total of four teams, including myself, with one Chinese group and the rest being Korean. Grandma's Cooking School's systematic operation was evident from the start. Each group proceeded smoothly, and at the market, our guide explained the ingredients for today's menu in detail in English. We were given 15 minutes of free time, which we used to explore the various aspects of the market.

Artistically Designed Cooking School Space

Upon arriving at the cooking school, I was reminded of my college visit to a place. The space was carefully designed for the special activity of cooking. Red-roofed traditional houses were surrounded by lush gardens, with a farm in the back, individual cooking stations for each team, and classes conducted both indoors and outdoors. It was impressive to see everyone cooking in their own dedicated spaces.

Experiencing the Essence of Thai Cuisine with All Five Senses

The experience of seeing, tasting, and smelling the ingredients we saw at the market in the farm was special. Sitting face-to-face with the instructor, I could observe every process in detail. The sequence of touching, smelling, and tasting ingredients was fascinating, even under the hot and strong sunlight.

The World of Thai Cuisine Crafted with Care

Each personal cooking station was neatly organized with necessary tools, and it was enjoyable to follow along with the instructor's demonstrations step by step. From the sweet and sour Tom Yum Kung to Thailand's signature stir-fry Pad Thai, every dish was special. The soup with fresh shrimp in creamy coconut milk particularly exemplified the essence of Thai cuisine. Each dish was more than just delicious food - it was like a work of art. Fresh fruits like mango were beautifully cut, and each dish was decorated with edible flowers, adding visual pleasure. The dishes served in black ceramic plates looked like they belonged in a high-end restaurant.

Photos and Videos
  • Plenty of time is provided to photograph the cooking process and finished dishes

Closing Thoughts

Grandma's Cooking School offers a complete package experience, from market tours to farm visits and hands-on cooking, rather than just being a simple cooking class. Despite the hot weather, it was a special time where we could experience the essence of Thai cuisine with all five senses. If I visit again, I'd like to choose a cooler day.
