Five days at this Airbnb, costing $111.54 (averaging $22.3 per night), offered an unexpectedly special experience. Initially chosen for its appealing photos, it turned out to be perfectly located right in front of One Nimman.

First Steps: Journey from the Airport

Chiang Mai Airport, though smaller than expected, impressed me with its quick baggage claim. I activated my eSIM upon arrival and immediately received a message from our Airbnb host. The airport taxi cost just 150 baht ($4.3), and I only waited five minutes. The proximity to Nimmanhaemin makes it an ideal first-time stay, with minimal transportation costs and travel time.

Authentic Chiang Mai Nightlife with Local Hosts

Despite the late hour, our hosts personally welcomed us and helped carry heavy luggage to the second floor. Though the house was warm, the orange lighting created a cozy atmosphere. When I asked about Nimmanhaemin's nightlife, our hosts invited us to Lonely Heart Cafe, a local favorite even on Monday nights. A margarita (280 baht, $8) and conversation became a memorable start to our stay.

Days later, our hosts invited us to Yoh Bar, where we met their hometown friends. The night progressed with Sang Song whiskey and ended at Bar Charoendee. Despite language barriers, we felt the genuine warmth of Thai hospitality.

Mornings Like a Local: Authentic Thai Breakfast Experience

The house's greatest charm was its authentic Thai homestay experience. Every morning from 8 to 10 AM, we enjoyed different homemade Thai breakfasts, offering a taste of genuine Thai home cooking distinct from restaurant fare:

  • Day 1: Krapao Kai Jiao (Thai basil rice with fried egg)
  • Day 3: Kai Jiao (Thai-style omelet)
  • Day 4: Khao Tom Kai (Thai rice soup)
  • Day 5: Western-style brunch
  • Last Day: Pad Krapao Moo Sab (Minced pork with Thai basil)

The true highlight was the organic connections formed with other guests during breakfast. These morning conversations with fellow travelers became a daily source of energy and inspiration for me as a solo traveler.

A Little Story About This House

A two-story wooden building just five minutes from One Nimman, this house beautifully preserves traditional Thai architectural elements. The wooden stairs and windows create a unique atmosphere, while the first-floor common area feels like a cozy cafe, perfect for reading or working. Interestingly, the house was previously owned by a Korean author of 'Triple Chiang Mai' before the current hosts took over. Perhaps thanks to the host's photographer husband, the interior strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and sophistication.
